Redeemer Covenant has always had a desire to serve in our community. One outreach began in 2000 with a visit to one of our local nursing and retirement homes, Heritage Gardens. A group from Redeemer met with the activity director to see if there was anything that they could do to help. This simple visit began a long lasting relationship with the staff and residents.
The outreach began with visitations and personal shopping for the residents. Then it expanded to include two outdoor cookouts each year for the residents, their families and the staff. The cookouts also include a time of planting new flowers around the patio area and tree planters. Everyone joins in together for a great time of fellowship and serving. The residents look forward to these events with great anticipation.
In addition to the cookouts and flower plantings, Redeemer hosts a card game with the residents each Tuesday night. A version of the television show Card Sharks is played using two sets of large playing cards. Volunteers have been playing this game with the residents for at least five years. This has provided for some really close relationships to be formed with the residents, their families and the staff.
Redeemer outreach members also visit and pray with the residents and are always available to assist with any projects or needs the staff of Heritage have.
It is has always been the heart of Redeemer to serve beyond the walls of the church and the Heritage Gardens Outreach is just one part of this.
